View the Vikings night, Wednesday, February 10, is a chance for prospective students to get a feel for Grand View, and possibly even be accepted on the spot. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. in the lobby of the Wellness Center. Then from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. the guests and prospective students will enjoy an informal dinner, meet with some coaches and be given a tour of the Wellness Center and the residence halls. After the tour the visitors will be given free admission to stay and watch our the Viking's Men's and Women's basketball teams battle against Wesleyan College.
"It's just really a pretty informal evening of meet and greet," Diane Schaefer Johnson, director of admissions, said, "Watch a game, and, hey, have some pizza."
Prospective students who are high school seniors or transferring from another college could be accepted that evening. They should bring their official college and high school transcript and official ACT score in sealed envelopes. They will then have to fill out a quick application, which will be reviewed, and they will be informed whether they are accepted by the end of the evening.
"We've done that for about the last 2 years, where we've done the on the spot acceptance," Johnson said. "So that's a nice little carrot to dangle in front of the students."
Grand View has been doing the "View the Vikings" event 4 years and usually has a 30-student turn out. Those who want to attend are requested to RSVP on the website or by phone by February 8.
"It's always a successful night," Johnson said. "We usually have around 30 students or so plus their parents. It's just a chance for us to get to know them a little better."
