Unfortunately, there isn't going to be any relief from this until much later down the line. Referring to the repair timeline, Cedar Rapids Streets Maintenance Manager Craig Hanson said, "Until we start looking at the last week of March or the first week of April when the frost is fully out of the ground again, we won't be able to know that."
This does not exactly put a smile on the citizens' faces because they are tired of the potholes.
Marissa Miller, Sophomore Graphic design major said, "They mess up my car and I don't like them. I think the city should do something about them."
Anne O'Leary, nursing junior said, "There are so many of them and they are so dangerous. They cause car accidents and people get hurt. My sister hit a pothole the other day and got a flat tire." Many students have the same issues and objections to waiting to fix the streets.
According to Jordan Flatt, employee with Flatt Tire Center, potholes usually cause damaged rims that can cost hundreds of dollars to replace. Because of that fact, many people would rather not pay hundreds of dollars to repair their cars; they would much rather appreciate the consideration of the city and fix the potholes now.
Even though according to Hanson, it just isn't the right time, students highly disagree when we are going down the outside lane of the streets and hit a pothole every five feet.
Really, all we can do is sit back and wait for the city to do their job and that means waiting until they say it's okay.
