A rummage sale will be held at the Lutheran Memorial Church on February 26 and 27 to raises funds for Haiti relief.
Students, faculty, and surrounding neighbors don't have to wait until then to donate items for the rummage sale. People can donate things such as clothes that don't fit anymore to kitchenware that isn't in use to the Student Life Office at Grand View at any time.
Dr. Katharina Tumpek-Kjellmark, professor of history, said, "A lot of people don't have money to give away, so this is a fun way to raise some money."
On Friday, Feb. 26 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. all the donated items will be at the Lutheran Memorial Church for the rummage sale. Anyone is welcome to come and shop through the rummage.
Charlene Cox, campus pastor, said, "100% of funds are going to direct aid to three agencies that have been in Haiti since before the earthquake."
Any kind of rummage can be donated; old TVs, lamps, movies, CDs. These items need to be taken to the Student Life Office at any time before Feb. 26. If larger items are being donated contact Heidi Pries, director of student involvement and new student programs, at hpries@grandview.edu or call at 515.263.2843 for help.
These items will be taken to the Lutheran Memorial Church and sold to make the money for Haiti. Not only is it important for people to donate but also to shop in order to raise money, Tumpek said. The needs of people in Haiti are so specific that we need to donate just money.
Tumpek-Kjellmark said, in addition to financial resources, Lutheran World Relief is also in need of Health Kits, School Kits, and Layettes to be sent to Haiti. The LWR stock-pile of these "kits" has been nearly depleted already in Haiti shipments, and they are desperately in need of more.
