Intramurals get students involved

From football to volleyball, there are many athletic opportunities on campus. Intramurals are another way to enjoy the sporting experience here at Grand View.
Late night dodgeball takes place from 10 p.m. to midnight on Nov. 6 in the Wellness Center fieldhouse. Teams will come together to play this high school favorite but only one will remain by the end of the night.
This tournament is open division so team can consider of all male, all female or co-ed. Rosters are due by 9:45 p.m. that night.
Russell Place, intramural coordinator, said if you don't have a team, to come and they'll find you a team.
Intramurals gives students who want to compete and have fun a chance to participate in sporting events. Game play takes place in the evening after day classes are over and usually allows more versatile play than the school's other sporting events and teams.
Some upcoming intramural sports offered are indoor volleyball, dodge ball, kickball, basketball, bags, game night, indoor soccer and tennis. This fall, only flag football and outdoor volleyball have taken place.
"I enjoyed the [flag] football. I think they should come up with a way to do on-side kicks though," Taylor Rasmussen, freshman sports broadcast, said.
Three-on-three basketball started this past Monday in the Wellness Center at 8 p.m. Games will be every Monday night from Oct. 26 until Nov. 30.
Place said they have seven men's teams lined up for the competition and it should be a good time.
When students come back, five-on-five basketball (men, women and co-ed) and co-ed indoor volleyball will be starting.
Rosters need to be turned into the student life office before students leave for winter break. Each team is allowed up to 10 members.
