SAC will hold the second Texas Hold 'em tournament on November 9 and 11. The field house holds the first round on the 9, and the finals in Bud's Place on the 11.

Even though the event is still in the early stages of planning, SAC hopes that this year's tournament will have as great of a turnout as last years. Alex Olson, nursing and Spanish sophomore and SAC president, said the tournament might turn into an annual event, depending on the attendance and opinions of students who participate.

"Last year we thought about it and we just wanted to come up with an event that we thought would be pretty easy for us to hold, pretty cheap and a lot of people would get involved in, and we had a better turnout than what we expected," Olson said. "It was really good and a lot of people liked it. We took opinions from a lot of the people who participated and we're going to do it two times this year. See how it goes and it might be an annual thing."

Prizes will be awarded to the top competitors in the tournament. Last year's prizes included Target and Texas Roadhouse gift cards to the top ten players, and an iPod touch for first place. Olson said that SAC has not decided what prizes will be handed out, but are discussing the possibility of including a TV as one of the awards.

Not everyone knows how to play Texas Hold' em however, and SAC understands this. Olson said that other options such as a Nintendo Wii or board games are planned to be available at the finals in Bud's Place to those who do not know how to play the game but still want to participate in the event.

Olson admitted that even she does not know how to play Texas Hold' em.

"I don't know that card game at all. So for me I'm kind off in la-la land compared to everybody else, so I kind of just let everybody else deal with it and I'll deal with the organization."

For those who want to show off their skills at Texas Hold 'em so they can win prizes, or just try their hand at the game, can show up at the first round in the field house. A time or signup sheet has yet to be posted, but posters and e-mails will be sent out to the campus within the following weeks.
