Golf
The men's golf team finished second out of 14 teams at the Peaks Classic in La Veta, CO on Sept. 13 and 14. Aaron Ahrendsen, freshman, tied with four other golfers at two under par for second place. Ahrendsen shot a three round total of 214. Josh Manske, sophomore, also tied with four other golfers at even par to tie for sixth.
On the women's side, Amalia Meiji, freshman, led the Vikings to a third place finish by shooting two round total 175. Meiji finished tied for eighth. Mackenzie Riedell, sophomore, finished 14 with a 193.
CROSS COUNTRY
Saturday, Sept. 19 the men and women's cross country teams traveled to Ames to compete in the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships at Iowa State's campus.
The Viking men finished with 215 points and placed seventh overall. The team was led by Bichok Deng, senior, who finished 27 with a time of 27:45 in the 8K race. Not far behind was Nick Newbury, junior, who placed 47 running a time of 29:47. Alan Paton, junior, followed closed behind placing 48 with a time of 31:03.
The women finished sixth led by Obsie Birru, sophomore, who finished second in the 5K and was the highest collegiate finisher in the race. Birru ran a 18:14 5K. McKelle Lacher, sophomore and Megan Winkelmann, senior, finished the race with the time of 20:52.
Birru was also honored as Midwest Collegeilst Conference runner of the week. This is the second time she earned this award.
Volleyball
The Volleyball team traveled to Olathe, KS over the past weekend to compete in the MidAmerican Nazarene Tournament. After dropping the first two games both by the score 19-25 to Evangel University but they came back to win, 25-17, 26-24 and 15-10 in five. In that game, Amber Boever, sophomore libero, led the team with 31 digs. Devon Jensen, freshman outside hitter, added 19 kills and 18 digs.
The second match the team was up against the Benedictine University. The Vikings started off by winning the first set, 25-14 but Benedictine came back winning the last three sets 17-25, 23-25 and 23-25.
On the third match, the Vikings beat William Jewell College in four games, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-17. Ashtyn Neill, senior setter, led with 34 assists along with Jensen who had 18 digs, and Boevers finished it off with 29 digs.
The Vikings lost they final game of the weekend to Baker University, 14-25, 21-25 and 22-25.
