Vikings softball team wins four during six-game stretch

The Lady Vikings (24-14) spilt against St. Ambrose April 9, in Davenport. In the first game, the Vikings went 3-0 in game one. The team scored the three runs on seven hits.
At the top of the second inning, Whitney Link, junior, and Erin Liebe, junior, both hit homeruns. The top of the third inning brought the third run by Whitney Grimes, senior, and Amanda Phillips, junior, both hitting doubles.
Pitcher Kylee Jones, junior, had her seventh win of the season and struck out five during the shutout.
In game two of the series, Meghan Tomlinson, sophomore, hit a single in the first inning, and scored by Grimes to take the lead. In the fourth inning, Grand View also scored after Link was walked, advanced a base when Courtney Yacinich, sophomore, hit a single and Link scored by an error from the catcher.
St. Ambrose came back and scored in the bottom of the fifth and the Vikings responded with two more runs in to top of the sixth. Megan Anderson, sophomore, and Link were walked back-to-back. Kelsey Karaidos, senior, hit a grounder, but scored pinch runner Kayla Donahue, sophomore. Link scored on a single by Ashley Simbro, senior, putting Grand View 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth, St. Ambrose rallied and scored five runs on five hits, with three of the hits being doubles.
St. Ambrose sent the first three Viking batters back to the dugout, having St. Ambrose winning the game 6-4. Kelsey Rethmeier, senior, had six strikeouts in the loss.
The Lady Vikings also dominated against Olivet Nazarene April 10, to win the four game series with the Tigers. Game one's score was 2-0 and game two had a whopping 13-5 in a five inning game.
The bottom of the sixth started the scoring by Link, her twelfth hit of the season. Yacinich was walked and scored on a single by Simbro, who was three of three in game one. Rethmeier struck out eight in the shutout game, which resulted in her 12th win of the year.
Thirteen scored off 10 hits during the second game. In the first inning, six runs came in; the second inning resulted in three runs and the third and fourth innings both got two runs a piece.
Philips hit a home run, while Tomlinson, Karaidos, Yacinich and Amanda Busch, junior, all hit doubles. Tomlinson had two of three while batting and three RBI's. Jones received her ninth win of the season.
The Vikings also split with Waldford early this week and head to Viterbo this weekend
