In 1945, Pintus and some of his past inmates were instructed to get into the back of an army truck that would take them to concentration camps.

Pintus and two others were able to escape through a newly bombed electric fence. They hid for eight days in the forest, very scared of what might happen if they were caught. They had nothing to eat but raw potatoes, bark from the trees and leaves.

After eight days in the forest, they met Dwight D. Eisenhower who was coming to set them and many others free.

Shortly after their run-in with Eisenhower, Pintus was returned to his father who died shortly after their reunion.

" I didn't have a job; I had not finished my schooling. I was lost," Pintus said.

But a few years later, he had finished three years of high school in one year and gone to college to get his degree in Architecture.

Now Pintus has been happily married to his wife for 60 years. He started out with no family and ended up with five children. Having moved on from the past, he said he loves his life and loves telling his story.
