Anticipation for December graduation is growing quickly as Grand View says goodbye to a number of its students.

Not only are these December grads worrying about all the holiday hustle and bustle they have to find and land a job.

Amy Webb, mass communication senior, said, "It is different because it doesn't feel like there is that many of us graduating and looking for jobs."

Webb is graduating in December because she has reached the total amount of credits in order to graduate early. She is done Dec. 10 and will walk in the graduation ceremony in April with the rest of the 2009 class. Her future plans are working at American Concrete Institute in Ankeny as a recruitment specialist.

Nursing majors will have their own pinning ceremony in December with a speaker instead of the April ceremony.

However, she and other students are having fears about going out into the world during a time where the economy and job market are unsteady.

"My fear is not knowing if the company I work for will still be around," Webb said.

Student Stephanie Cameron, nursing, senior, graduates Dec. 12 and plans to stay in Des Moines to study for the nursing board test.

"I am lucky to be in nursing because they are always in demand," Cameron said.

Cameron has played soccer at Grand View for four and half years and says she took things slower so she is graduating in nine semesters instead of eight.

James Swanson, management information systems/business analyst senior said, "I can't wait to get out there in the workforce and start making money with my Grand View University degree."

He hopes to get an entry level in a management position or a job dealing with computer management.

Ashley Stafford, mass communication, junior is also graduating in December, but not until next year. She has transferred three different times and had major problems with credits. She has finally found a home here at Grand View.

"It seemed that graduation would never be here. Surprisingly, I will be graduating next December and I could not be more excited. Although I am afraid of some things out in the real world for the first time, I am still optimistic about the real world," Stafford said.

As the graduation date and finals approaches fear of finding a job, anxiety and nerves can also come into play.

Webb said, "I am nervous for my project and final, but will be relieved to be done and have some free time."

Cameron feels nervous, but says it is like a fun nervous.

Stafford said, "I can't be afraid of graduating or I'll be letting things pass me by."
