Black Friday is looming just around the corner which means the time for shopping and chaos is here.
The day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. It is called Black Friday. This day represents the beginning of the seasonal shopping season. It is no surprise that it is one of the busiest Fridays of the year for stores and shoppers.
Shoppers are known to be lined up for hours before the stores open up their doors. Some shoppers even start lining up in front of stores days ahead of time to get a chance of getting the items they want no matter what the weather is like.
During this time, many retailers and stores open their doors very early, usually around 5 a.m., while some even earlier, to offer huge deals and price cuts on many different items such as televisions and computers. The items vary from place to place and what the sale is going to be on.
Some of the stores that attract shoppers are Office Depot, Big Lots, Best Buy and even nutritional stores such as GNC. Office Depot offers products and items such as televisions, computers and printers. The popular items from Big Lots are in the furniture department and some electronics. It carries products such as food and toys as well.
Becca Clayton, public relations junior said, "It's a tradition in my family. We go to Best Buy, Target and Walgreens, every year to get the best deals."
Best Buy has some of the biggest products that attract people year after year. Most know it as a place to buy electronics and movies with the wide selections they have. It also offers different video game systems such as X - Box 360 and the Playstation 3 along with hundreds of games.
Joey Beltrame, broadcast junior said, "Best Buy has the best deals on electronics for me."
Nutritional stores such as GNC have become a hit on Black Friday as well. With such a big percentage of the country being overweight, exercising has become more popular.
Andy Lancial, manager at the Merle Hay Mall GNC, said, "With this economy things could go either way. I hope we have as successful of a day as we did last year."
While the day is a big thing for many people, not everyone feels the same way about it. Some actually feel completely opposite from the dedicated shoppers.
Andy Bernholtz, business administration sophomore, said "I think it's a chaotic day where millions of people head to shop, with crazy sales being held all day. Personally I try to stay away from the malls and I can wait until it settles down."
