Zach Cassler, information and technology management junior; Matt Small, sports management junior; and James Mator, business administrations senior, put the tournament together as part of a semester long project for their project management class with professor Dmitry Yarushkin.
Cassler said they are doing these types of projects throughout the year for their class, but the inspiration for the project came from best selling author, Greg Mortenson.
Mortenson is the co-founder and director of the Central Asia Institute, an organization whose mission is to promote and provide community-based education and literacy programs, especially for females, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Cassler said, "Another college did this same type of project and raised over $33,000, enough for three schools to be built. This is just the first of many projects we are planning on doing. We are hoping once we leave others will pick up where we left off."
The tournament started at 7 p.m. in Bud's Place.
The underdog, Team Bosnia, consisting of Damon Arredondo, sports management freshman and Edin Hadzic, MIS freshman, upset Team Hasslehoff.
Team Hasslehoff was up by four balls with just the eight ball to go when they scratched to give Team Bosnia the victory. Team Bosnia then continued to win the entire tournament and the $50 prize.
Arredondo said, "We feel fortunate because it was the greatest run since when George Mason made it to the final four in the NCAA tournament."
Cassler said the next event will most likely be a silent auction of items donated by the history club at La Vida Loca Winery in Indianola on Nov. 15.
