"Sex Drive" is about high school senior, Ian Lafferty, who drives across the country in order to lose his virginity to a smoking hot babe he met on the internet. His two friends, Felicia and Lance, tag along for the ride full of adventures and escapes.
Ian Lafferty (Josh Zuckerman) can't seem to catch a break. He's taunted by his older brother Rex (James Marsden), shown up in the romance department by his 14-year-old brother and humiliated by his job at a mall donut shop. But Ian's biggest problem is he's about to start college as a virgin.
Ian resorts to the internet for dates, after he is rejected by the girl of his dreams and longtime best friend Felicia (Amanda Crew). He hooks up with Ms. Tasty (Katrina Bowden) online, who cannot wait to get down to business. One thing about this girl is she is 500 miles away in Knoxville. His pal Lance (Clark Duke) encourages him to steal his brothers 1969 Pontiac GTO. On the road to visit the girl, Ian runs into some speed bumps along the way.
The best part of the film is when the three friends run into some car trouble but are saved by a sarcastic Amish hipster (Seth Green). The three spend the night at a hard-partying community of Amish folk. They also run into a small town carnival along the way.
Kevin Carr, a film school rejects' critic, said, "There's not a whole lot of new ground covered with this movie, making it a mix of "American Pie" and "Road Trip." However, the jokes worked and I found myself laughing out loud in many scenes. There's plenty of raunchiness, nudity, sex and comedy to make the trip worth it."
"Sex Drive" is written by Sean Anders and John Morris and is based on the 2006 novel "All the Way" by Andy Behrens. It is directed by Sean Anders and is not exactly stunningly original, but it's still a hilarious film.
The three leads do a pretty good job, Lance being a particularly funny character with an Austin Powers-like personality. Marsden and Green steal the show in every scene they're in and all of the characters in the film are interesting, even if most of them are stock characters. The script is also well connected with most of the characters being connected to the larger plot and combines with straight adult humor well. Every gag sequence gets big laughs and the comedy never slows down or dies out. The internet cut-aways are especially hilarious supplements.
The New York Times said, "The most notable thing about "Sex Drive," an aggressively puerile, fitfully amusing and sluggish teenage sex comedy, is it reserves all its creativity for ways to revolt and ostensibly delight its target audience."
"Sex Drive" is entertaining the whole way through, without a dull moment. This movie contains some very funny moments, hilarious sight gags and a good-natured message for teenagers about taking risks. If you're in the mood for an "American Pie" style comedy, I would recommend checking out "Sex Drive."
